About Bentley's Sanctuary

Bentley’s Sanctuary is named after a former beloved family pet. Bentley was a Chocolate Labrador who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March of 2022. The love for animals has been a part of sanctuary founders Diane and Ralph Jewell’s life for decades.

In 2018, they relocated to Southern Oregon, and in 2023 they found that they had the space to realize their dream of opening an animal sanctuary.

In August 2023, Bentley’s Sanctuary was awarded its non-profit designation, and began accepting animals at the sanctuary’s Rogue River, OR location along Evans Creek.

Meet The Farm

Roo is a 9 year old female Nigerian Dwarf goat. Because of a family’s hardship to care for Roo she is now at her forever home. She is the sweetest little girl, and really catches peoples’ heart with her beautiful smile.

Bean is a one-year old male Nigerian Dwarf goat. He was one of 6 kids born which is very rare. One kid did not survive, and Bean was born with deformities. Bean was surrendered to us when he was 5 months old. The family decided not to keep him due to his deformities. He is in perfect health, and his deformities do not affect his ability to be a happy & energetic little guy.

Penny is a 7-year-old Pygmy goat. Pygmies are one of the shortest goats. Penny came to us from a goat rescue in Washington state. People always ask if she is pregnant because of her wide body shape. Goats have four compartments to their stomachs. The first and largest compartment is the rumen. Being short, the rumen gives her the wide and pregnant-looking shape. With her long horns she is able to just bend her head back, and scratch her back.

Tommy is a 9-month old Tennessee Fainting Goat or myotonic goat. They are an American breed of goat characterized by myotonia congenita, a hereditary condition that may cause the goat to stiffen or fall over. Tommy and his twin brother, Artie, were brought to the sanctuary by a neighbor. They were to be butchered but the person doing the butchering could not do it because they were so cute. Of the two brothers, Tommy is more protective over Artie, and you will always find them laying together. Tommy and Artie are now living a peaceful life here at the sanctuary.

Blanca is a 10-year-old LaMancha goat. Due to a family’s hardship to care for her she is now at her forever home. Blanca is a much bigger breed weighing in at approximately 150 lbs. She is strong willed, and has assumed the role of the matriarch of the herd.

Artie is a 9-month old Tennessee Fainting Goat or myotonic goat. They are an American breed of goat characterized by myotonia congenita, a hereditary condition that may cause the goat to stiffen or fall over when excited or startled. Artie and his twin brother, Tommy, were brought to the sanctuary by a neighbor. They were to be butchered but the person doing the butchering could not do it because they were so cute. Artie is such a character. He loves to run downhill turning circles at the same time. Of the two brothers, Artie startles more easily. He stiffens & falls frequently but he gets right back up as if nothing ever happened. Artie and Tommy are now living a peaceful life here at the sanctuary.

Crystal is 11 weeks old. Her father is a Nigerian Dwarf goat, and mom is a mix of Alpine & Boer goats. She has the sweetest personality, and always wants to be held & cuddled. We saw her at a neighboring farm, and knew we had to have her come join our sanctuary family.
